Sacramento’s heritage celebration is scheduled for Labor Day Weekend. More than 200 tons of dirt will be dumped on the streets of Old Sacramento as the annual festival “turns back the clock,” transforming Sacramento’s historic district into a scene straight out of the 1850s. Costumed re-enactors, Wild West gun fights, musicians playing period instruments, and many aspects of life during the Gold Rush will be highlighted during the four-day event.

111 Minna Gallery is proud to present “Everyday”, an exhibition showcasing new works by group of Californian tattoo artists including Shawn Barber, Mike Giant and Mike Davis. The gallery will be hosting an ARTIST-ATTENDED opening reception on Thursday, September 2, 2010, 5pm-late. 21+
‘Everyday’ is an attempt to shine a different light on a group of artists who have been involved in the tattoo practice and part of the shop culture. A variety of other media, not simply tattoo designs, will be on display to capture another side of the tattoo culture, the everyday lives of these artists, which can be viewed as a unique subculture in itself. Viewers will gain a different insight to the artistic commitment, nature and practice through this unique and candid exhibition.
The exhibition has been curated by, for 111 Minna Gallery, by Andres Guerrero (owner and director of the Guerrero Gallery, in San Francisco) with assistance from 111 Minna Gallery Curator Jay Howell and Gabe Scott.

With the Sacramento March Against Slavery less than 1 week away, here are 3 ways you can get ready for the big day!!
1 – Pre-register at http://sacmarchagainstslavery.com/. Online registration ends Wednesday, otherwise you need to register Saturday morning, and may have to wait in line (get there early!)
2 – Get ready to spread the news! Make some signs to carry with you while you march. Some suggested slogans: “Say NO to Modern Day Slavery”; “Men, Women & Children are NOT for Sale”; “People Shouldn’t Be Bought & Sold”; “Stop Human Trafficking”; “Stop the Traffic”; “Abolition!” – or whatever other slogans you can think of (without being offensive).
3 – Pre-order your official event t-shirt at http://sacmarchagainstslavery.com/. T-shirts on Saturday will be first come, first serve for those who chose not to pre-order and reserve one in their size.

August is National Child Support Awareness Month. Often, when we talk about child support the conversation is limited to financial support; however, there are other obligations that are just as important. Child support shouldn’t stop at making sure our children are financially provided for, it also must incorporate broader issues like emotional support, role modeling, bonding, social development, self esteem building, as well as supporting our child or childrens involvement in school and sports.
The mission of the Fathers Resource Center is to promote positive parental involvement in order to allow children positive and equal access to both parents. Also, we provide resources and services to fathers and educate the community about the importance of fatherhood involvement.
Join us as we recognize National Child Support Awareness Month. Please see the flyer for details. Blessings!
